My old WD2002FYPS-708 bought in Dec 2010 had many bad sectors.

I took it for replacement today at Synnex.

They replaced a new WD2000FYYZ-C50 (RE - HDD Durability) to me as WD2002FYPS (RE4-GP) is out of stock (need to wait 4 weeks for it).

Do not want to wait and come again, I decided to take the WD2000FYYZ instead.

Is this WD2000FYYZ (Product of 2013) is better than WD2002FYPS (Product of 2009) ?

WD RE = Enterprise Class HDD (1.4 Million Hours MTBF : 24 x 7 x 365) - Work Load 550TB/year

5 years Warranty

Original Warranty Period : Dec 2010 - Dec 2015 --> So any failed HDD can be replaced.

Hence, the new replaced WD2000FYYZ RE (produced on 11 Aug 2014) will enjoy continuously the previous warranty until Dec 2015.

I used two identical WD2002FYPS-708 (purchased in Dec 2010 from Henry) in Synology DS710+ operated 24 x 7 non-stop under RAID 1.

The HDD No.1 in the DS710+ which was always hotter and started reporting bad sector in June 2014.

The HDD No.2 has been in good health without any problem.

Exchanged for a new WD2000FYYZ (produced in Aug 2014), I expect it can used for another 5 years in NAS 24 x7

Early broke down or failure within the 5 years warranty, you can have a new HDD to extend the usage life

Bad luck, if it failure immediate after 5 years service life.

Then you'll be using two different HDD models in a RAID-1 ? Better check whether their spec match with each other.

新版會用更高密度碟片,速度會快D。
RAID 1用唔同速HD主要影響係快果隻要等埋慢果隻做野。
